Chemex Paper Filters for 1–3 Cups
Genuine Chemex paper filters for the small CM-3A model, one-third thicker than standard filters. The package contains 100 bleached filters for one to three cups.
Chemex stands by its paper, and for good reason. The filters are about 30% thicker than standard paper filters, so they slow down the flow and give the water time to extract everything it should from the beans. The result is a clean, clear cup free of sediment and oils—a hallmark of Chemex—and it’s that thick layer of paper that does most of the work. The filter’s conical shape precisely matches the carafe’s geometry and holds the coffee bed together throughout the entire extraction. The bleached version is more neutral in terms of flavor, and the paper taste is less noticeable; however, it’s still worth rinsing the filter thoroughly before brewing.
This size is compatible with the Chemex CM-3A model with a wooden handle—the smallest Chemex in the lineup. Usage Unfold the filter so that the triple layer of paper faces the carafe’s spout—this will stabilize it without blocking the vent slot. Rinse with hot water, pour the water out of the carafe, and only then add the ground coffee. Grind the coffee coarser than for a V60; because the Chemex uses thicker paper, it brews more slowly, and a fine grind will easily clog it. After pouring, let the filter drip dry and dispose of it, along with the coffee grounds, in the compost bin.
