Kenya's Kiangoi AA coffee from the prestigious Berlin-based roaster The Barn represents the best of the famous Kirinyaga region, known for its exceptional terroir and succulent coffees.
This coffee is the last Kenyan new coffee of the season from The Barn and comes from the Kiangoi processing station run by the Rung'eto FCS cooperative. Small-scale farmers from the surrounding area carefully cultivate cherry trees at altitudes of around 1,600 metres, which combined with the fertile volcanic soil gives the SL28 and SL34 beans their unmistakable character. The AA designation denotes the largest and highest quality beans that have undergone precise wet processing, including fermentation and subsequent soaking in pure river water, which ensures the coffee's incredible purity and brightness. In the cup, Kiangoi AA immediately impresses with its vibrant complexity and syrupy sweetness that beautifully balances the fresh fruitiness.
The flavour profile is dominated by notes of blood orange and ripe plum, accompanied by elegant aromas of hibiscus and black tea. As the coffee cools, the deep sweetness of blackcurrant comes to the fore, making each sip a layered experience typical of the best Kenyan microlots.
