Andy Roasters is not the name of a person, but the philosophy of an Antwerp roastery that approaches coffee as a work of art hidden in everyday life. Behind the project are friends Dave Haesen and Kjell Maes, who opened their own roastery in the Hoboken factory district in 2020. Their goal is to reveal the complex flavor potential of each bean and show the world that coffee can be much more than just a regular caffeine kick.
Andy Roasters was founded in the midst of the pandemic as the logical outcome of a five-year journey by two independent café owners in Antwerp. Dave fell in love with specialty coffee during his years in Melbourne, where he worked as a barista and manager. After returning to Belgium in 2015, he founded Butchers Coffee with a distinctly Australian aesthetic. Five years later, when growing demand for quality coffee required control over the entire process, he decided to found Andy Roasters together with Kjell and head roaster Emiel Rymenans. They originally built the roastery in the Blikfabriek factory building, where they began roasting mainly for their own cafés and wholesale clients throughout Antwerp.
The Andy Roasters philosophy is based on three pillars: Digging – delving into the offerings of European specialty retailers in search of hidden gems; Playing – experimenting with roasting and preparation methods with an open mind and a joy of discovery; and Understanding – continuous education and humility in the face of coffee's complexity. In 2022, they opened a flagship store at Amerikalei 82, combining retro-futuristic design with minimalist aesthetics, a vinyl shop with a DJ deck, and a spacious terrace. The roastery divides its coffee portfolio into three basic categories: less acidic and fruity profiles with nutty and chocolate tones, elegant washed coffees with a tea-like character, and "funky" natural or honey-processed coffees with full tones of ripe fruit. Saturday's Morning Show with live DJ sets and Tuesday evening running club prove that Andy's is more than just a roastery—it's a lifestyle.

Kenya Gatina AB
Andy RoastersKenyan coffee from the Nyeri region, where every detail counts. Roasted at Andy Roasters in Belgium, which works with trusted traders and doesn't offer wild stories about direct trade.
Gatina Washing Station has been operating since 1968 and is the heart of 790 farmers (including 280 women) associated with the Mugaga cooperative. The station lies between the western slopes of Mount Kenya and the eastern Aberdares Mountains—simply put, serious coffee country. Each farmer grows coffee on a small area, often just a few hundred trees, but thanks to their meticulous approach, they deliver top quality. No compromises, just hand-picked ripe cherries processed using the classic Kenyan method. Andy Roasters from South Antwerp know what they're doing. Founders Dave Haesen and Kjell Maes, who already run Butchers Coffee, have opted for a minimalist approach at Andy's, emphasizing the coffee itself. They roast on site, have their own running club, and host DJ sets every Saturday. This Kenya offers a profile full of roses, lemon, and strawberries—a classic from Nyeri made to perfection.

Kenya Gatina AB
Andy RoastersA Kenyan classic from the village of Gatina in the Nyeri region, where small farmers with a few hundred trees on their land show that quality is a matter of care, not hectares.
Gatina Washing Station has been a fixture in Nyeri County since 1968. The Mugaga cooperative brings together 790 farmers—almost a third of whom are women—and all of them supply only ripe cherries, which then undergo careful washed processing. The result? A clean, elegant flavor that lets you hear the true Kenyan school. No compromises, just precision work from harvesting to drying. Andy Roasters from Antwerp selected these beans for their Fruity Washed series, which focuses on delicate, almost tea-like profiles with bright acidity. Two friends, Kjell and Dave, started with their own coffees, then founded a roastery, and today they are among the most interesting players on the Belgian specialty coffee scene. The roast is light, the SL 28 and SL 34 varieties retain their classic Kenyan character, and Gatina simply fits.
