Coffee Pirates is one of the pioneers of fine coffee in Vienna and was the first "third wave" coffee roaster to be certified organic. They combine a respect for traditional Viennese coffee culture with a modern, uncompromising approach to sustainability and bean quality.
The founding duo Evelyn Priesch and Werner Savernik have been at the helm of this roastery since 2012. Their journey to coffee was driven by a passion for travel and discovery - from their many trips to coffee plantations they brought back not only a deep knowledge of growing, but also a collection of trinkets that now adorn their flagship café in Vienna's 9th district. Werner and Evelyn describe themselves as "those good and friendly warriors against bad coffee" and their goal from the beginning was to show that coffee can taste like a noble drink and not like burnt coal.
The Pirates' philosophy is based on transparency and superior relationships with farmers, who are often paid up to three times the market price for top quality raw material. They work with precision technology in their Vienna roastery, but the heart of their business remains the cosy atmosphere of the café, where students from the nearby university meet classic newspaper lovers. In this way, Coffee Pirates have done the impossible - in a conservative city of coffee traditions, they have built a modern institution that prides itself on the fact that every cup is the result of an ethical chain and a sincere love of the craft.
